Meet: Pour Over Love

Leadership, Training & Mentorship for youth experiencing homelessness

Making space for at-risk youth to overcome in Atlanta.

How did Your photography and charcuterie businesses begin?

LOVE is our underlying mission. 3 years ago when Ryan and a few others were mentoring some youth from the Covenant House, they all realized a specific gap in their career development, real mentorship at work, lack of life skills, and any real passion for what they were doing. This is when the idea of Pour Over Love came for the first time. After 1.5-2 years of building the company (making SEVERAL pivots from challenges along the way), the program curriculum, and recruiting the first class of youth experiencing homelessness, the program was kicked off the for first time in December 2022.

We are a leadership development, job-training, and mentorship program serving the youth of Atlanta. Since then, we've had over 30 young adults go through our program. We intentionally keep it a small cohort in order to really give these youth the individualized attention they need an deserve. We have employment partners around the city where we build and foster relationships with them to then pair our youth with them for jobs or internships. Each of our youth are paired with a mentor who is very intentionally selected for them to help them pursue their passions. This mentorship program is the furthest thing from transactional - at PoL, we focus on the relationship. They will meet with them over the course of the year until they officially graduate from the program. Our first cohort of 10 youth will graduate this December! We have been desiring to grow as a company and we know to do that, we need to bring on more top talent. So recently, we've built out the 6 pillars of our business and have been slowing bringing on leaders to fill each of those areas, i.e. Career Development, Mentorship, Fundraising, Partner Relations, Finance, etc. Our goal is to provide an equal chance for them to succeed, as we encourage, empower and embolden them to grow as leaders in their homes, work, and community. We are a faith-based company and at the end of the day, our underlying mission is to lead them closer to Christ, although it is not front and center, and we never push that on anyone.

Describe who you are in a few sentences.

LOVE. More than a "program". A community. Doing life with one another.

What’s been the hardest part?

Initially, it was funding for a coffeeshop that’s transitioned into what we have now. Now, it’s about mentorship. People are not a one-size-fits-all solution and never will be. Everyone is unique and has certain things they are working on and need support with. We are finding ways to do so individually, while also finding ways to scale across the group.

Who do you hope to reach with your brand?

Youth that need support, mentorship and have a desire to grow. People who want to give back to their community by investing into the next generation (and those less fortunate) and people who have a desire to provide funding for us to continue our mission.

What else should we know?

We are currently seeking women mentors! We need 3 more :) They can apply here.
